You don't need to fly which reduces your carbon footprint even further - by plane you get 1 mile per Kg of CO2, by car you get 3 miles per Kg of CO2 and by train you get 25 miles. If you own a petrol-guzzling 4-wheel drive then the easily accessible north west coast of France is a good choice (Loire, Vendee, Charente). The Vendee region is a good compromise, getting you just far enough south to enjoy lovely weather.

For heated pools, choose one that's run by a heat-pump and put the cover on at night.
